MUSIC AND SONG LEADERS OF THE FRIENDLY BIBLE CLASSExcellent song leaders and very talented pianists, using the Coksbury Hymnal, have combined from the early days of the Class to lead us in a songfest prior to each Sunday’s broadcast. It always ends with the first verse of the Class theme song, *Hymn #67, Help Somebody Today. The Class has had three regular pianists during its existence. The three include Mrs. Grady White, Mr. J. W. Johnson, and Mrs. Hugh (Martha Sue) McPhail. Three pianists in 74 years should qualify for a record of some sort. Sadly it came to an abrupt halt on May 1, 2003, when Martha Sue, the sweetheart of the Class, died. Several pianists helped out until August 4, 2004, when Clyde Wells, a relatively new member of the Class agreed to take charge of the music program. One of his first accomplishments was to persuade Mrs. Ted (Violet) Rhodes to become the fourth pianist in the Class history. Song leaders have been more numerous: L. H. Davis, Dr. W. M. Bailey, Jim Sexton, John Bass, David Small, A. J. Triggs, Kenneth Barron, and our former pianist, J. W. Johnson. His humor, talent and wit kept us singing and laughing until July 6, 2004, when he retired. His total service as pianist and song leader covered a period of over 25 years. Others, both men and women, have filled in since his retirement. The current music leaders are J. W. Johnson, A. J. Triggs, and Clyde Wells with Vi Rhodes on the piano. *Help Somebody Today
